This is my favourite new choco-licious eyeshadow palette: Too Faced Chocolate Bar

SAM_2441

It was a brilliant idea for Too Faced to infuse the beneficial cocoa powder into makeup products. Jerrod Blandino, the Too Faced Co-founder and Creative Director actually learned of the healing properties of cocoa while getting a chocolate facial in Maui. Their Chocolate Soleil Bronzer was a best seller. When they decided to put cocoa powder into eyeshadows, I immediately fell in love.

Chocolate has been used for centuries not only as delicious treats, but as ingredient in beauty rituals. It was the Mayans that first discovered cacao beans in 600 A.D and used it in rituals, as a currency and for special occasions. The Aztec empire sweetened the recipe by adding vanilla and honey in 1325. Two centuries later, Christopher Columbus brought back the cocoa tree to Spain and spread it to the world.

The benefits of chocolate in the beauty care is well known. (Why else that the Mayan and Aztec ladies worship them?!). Chocolate is packed with flavonoids, a subset of antioxidants which can help destroys free radicals and give protection from UV damage hence help skin become soft, smooth and wrinkle-free. Chocolate also contains minerals like copper, zinc and iron which help cell renewal for skin and hair. Even the smell of chocolate helps reduce stress hormones and boost the release of dopamine, a hormone that gives shots of happiness.

With Chocolate Bar, Jerrod created a first-of-its-kind palette that combines the healing benefits of chocolate with richly pigmented, velvety smooth shadows. Absolutely brilliant!

Can we spend a little more time admiring the cute packaging of Too faced Chocolate Bar Palette? It is a chunky yummylicious chocolate bar shape. The packaging is made of tin metal with magnetised flap. It is secure enough in protecting the precious eyeshadows inside. I think this palette looks really nice on my vanity.

When you open up the casing, you can see 16 beautiful combination of browns, neutrals, and two soft pop of colour eyeshadows. I immediately smell the delicious cocoa scent holding the palette in my hands.

I like that the eyeshadows are not all in same size and shape. I really do wear more light coloured shade compared to darker ones. The names of each shade are simply delicious, well relevant to the dessert theme.

One first swipe, I think nearly all are really pigmented (except Strawberry Bon Bon which I had to swatch few times to get a good intensity). They are smooth, non-flaky and easy to blend. There are 6 shades that are matte: White Chocolate, Salted Caramel, Semi-Sweet, Milk Chocolate, Strawberry Bon Bon and Triple Fudge. Shimmery shades are Gilded Ganache, Black Forest Truffle, Marzipan, Candied Violet, Amaretto, Hazelnut, Creme Bruleé, Haute Chocolate, Cherry Cordial and Champagne Truffle.

My little thoughts on the palette

My first impression just by looking at the palette, I really like Black Forest Truffle, Hazelnut and Cherry Cordial. After spending a little time swatching on my skin tone, I love all of them.

White Chocolate is a tad too light for my skin tone but it is a good matte highlight colour. I was sceptical to Strawberry Bon Bon initially, but this pastel pink colour complement all the brown/chocolate shades well. It really works as a inner corner colour or as a base. But for my tan skintone, I think I really have to pack it on.

Candied Voilet is such an interesting shimmery purple that I never had in my collection yet. I did swatch it in combination with Haute Chocolate, they works perfectly well.

I am in love with Gilded Ganache as sometimes I like to rock the army-colour mossy green in my eye makeup. The shimmery finish is so divine. <3

This Chocolate Bar palette is my new found love! It is so delicious, it is good enough to eat! I can easily imagined myself devouring this palette every single day as the eyeshadows are so versatile for day or night makeup.
