Its graduation season! I can see lots of my younger friends are having their graduation. Congratulations!!!
Graduation is one of the happiest day in your life and all the hardwork you put into your studies pay off.
Last weekend, I was there for my brother-in-law’s graduation. (Congratulations Akram. proud of you! ) I get to play with his graduation gown and cap. So, I took the opportunity to do a little pictorial of graduation makeup.
The key to the graduation makeup to have a natural yet youthful look. Its not heavy as you will spend long hours during the convocation. Sweat proof makeup with SPF (as usually Malaysian graduates would be spending lots of time in the sun). Let the makeup show the real you. Just have fun and take lots of picture as this would be one in a lifetime event.
Read till the end where I will show you guys my graduation picture back in 2009.
On to the makeup tutorial.
1) Prep your skin.
Exfoliate the night before. Apply hydrating mask and moisturise your face. Apply light sunscreen with at least low SPF (that won’t give u a white cast in pictures). Or you can choose to wear a foundation with SPF in it.
Usually the convocation will be held in a hot stuffy hall and most of the graduates will be gathering in the sun outside the hall. So you have to make sure you protect the skin.
After applying a face primer, I apply a CC cream with powder foundation to create a natural finish base makeup.
2) Brighten and define the eyes
Prime the eyelids well before applying eyeshadow to ensure no creasing and longer lasting eye make up. For graduation, you wanted your eyes to look happy, bright and youthfull. Hence, smokey eyes is no-no. Instead, use light eyeshadow base all over the eyelid, then add shimmering neutral colour over the outer corner, blending into the crease.
Line your eyes with a liquid eyeliner to define and make them bigger. Apply few coats of volumising WATERPROOF mascara (you might cry! -happy tears) and you are done.
Done forget to really fill in the brows, aim for a neutral arch and drwa a thicker brows in keeping with the youthful looks.
3) Moisten lips and gives it a bit of colour
I would recommend a MLBB lipstick or any pinkish or corally pink lip colour would look great in your graduation photos. This is the time to accentuate your natural youthful beauty.
This mini lipstick is great as you can bring it along for a quick touch up.
4) Contour and define cheek bones
This step is really crucial to look great in photos. You are already wearing a huge black/dark coloured graduation gown and cap. You wanted to face to have a definition that will look beautiful (not swallowed up by the heavy gown) in pictures. Use a matte bronzer and apply in the hollows of the cheeks, dab a little highlighting product over the high point of the cheek bone. Drag it in a upwards and outwards to the outer corner of the eyes up to the brow bone.
Finish off with a natural rosy glow over the cheeks and you’ll love your chiseled cheeks that stand out even pronouncely in you graduation pictures.
This is the finish look!
I love how natural and youthful it turned out. Let your own natural beauty and success be the centre of the show. Happy Graduation!
As promised, here are some of my graduation photos. I had my graduation ceremony during Autumn in University of Auckland. It was one of highlight of my life. I love the fluffy fur-trimmed robe. (I have a teddy bear wearing the same exact robe).
If you have graduated or will have graduation ceremony soon, tell me down below which college/university you have/are graduating from (just for my curiosity).
Thanks for reading.
