Throughout February, my skin was really bad, breaking out and it gets worse in the third week of February due to stress and depression. I’ve shared that I was unwell and was given two weeks of MC in FB/IG (if you followed me).
To put in boldly, I had a miscarriage and had to go for an operation become of it. I was really devastated and sad. Because of that, I couldn’t go to work and live my life like I normally do. After three years of marriage, me and hubs were so ready for parenthood and our joyful celebration only lasted about 2 months. We lost the baby at 12 weeks of gestation. That is a big reason why my skin were really acting up, bad enough that I have very acne-prone skin and the hormonal imbalance makes it worse.
However, waking up to wash my face, doing light makeup was sorta therapeutic as I was surrounding myself with my love of makeup. That is why you saw that I kept blogging and doing review as these things made me feel much better. Most of the February favourites that I’m sharing below are mostly products that help my sensitive, highly blemished skin.
Sorry about the initial rant..hey, March is already here. I have taken my time resting and recovering physically and mentally. I’m okay now so don’t worry.
Let us get into my February favourites. Here we go!
1) Cetaphil Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion
When you spend too much time crying your heart out, you notice that your skin becomes dehydrated. Although my skin is oily, I started having flakes of skin here and there. I have used this moisturiser about 3 years ago while undergoing high-intensity acne treatment (quite drying) and it worked like magic. So, I bought Cetaphil Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion and started using it again. The only downside of using this moisturiser that it is really thick and although it is mentioned on the packaging that it is non-greasy, it felt greasy on my oily skin. The best time to use it is at night time and this moisturiser will definitely melt your makeup. By the third night of using Cetaphil Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion, my skin felt well-hydrated and moisturised. No more flaky skin. It is magic!
I highly recommend this for those with dry to very dry skin and those who are currently undergoing high intensity acne treatment as those acne medications usually dries up the skin.
2) Thayers Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Toner
To unclog the pore more thoroughly after washing my skin, I use Thayers toner that is formulated with witch hazel extract that naturally will shrink large pores. The rose petal scent is so divine, I am so in love with this toner.
It is so refreshing using this toner during the day yet so soothing using it at night time. Love it!
I have done a full review HERE.
3) Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge with Bamboo Charcoal
Acne-prone skin needs regular exfoliation but with active acne, the skin is very irritated and inflamed. Harsh exfoliation breaks the skin and makes it even worse. I love using my Boscia Konjac Cleansing Sponge With Bamboo Charcoal to clean and gently exfoliate my skin making it smoother, softer and brighter-looking skin. The Konjac sponge is really hard when dry but turns cushiony soft on contact with water. Really gentle on the skin.
The Bamboo charcoal acts as a natural antibacterial agent which helps draw out impurities, minimise the appearance of pores, and reduce blemish-causing bacteria.
Love this a lot.
4) Mario Badescu Drying Lotion
This little guy is tiny yet packed with powerful punch. It contains Salicylic acid, Colloidal Suphur, Calamine, Camphor, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Oxide –> all the ingredients needed to help fight breakout effectively. Just dab a little on the spot at night, you’ll wake up and all the acne spots are noticetably calmed down and less irritated. For a huge zit, it takes 2-3 nights for it to work, but I really think Mario Badescu Drying Lotion work remarkably well.
However, do note this is very drying agent to the skin. Remember to put thick moisturiser afterwards. It is also stings some active spots too.
5) Ronasutra Mineral Makeup
I love wearing makeup. It gives you a sense of confidence. So, in February, I have been using mineral makeup. This is the first time I’m trying out Ronasutra Mineral Makeup. I used both the 2-in-1 Base & Concealer (shade Base 03) and 2-in-1 Foundation & Powder (shade 03 Natural Buff) and I really like how it feels on my skin and the coverage that it gives. It feels light on skin yet even out my skin tone nicely. The concealer somewhat lightens up the scars and hyper-pigmentation areas.
It really let syour skin breathe yet you still look flawless to face the day ahead. But you have to really pick your shade carefully. The powder oxidises about 30 minutes to 1 hour of wearing it. It turned pretty bronzey and orangey. I actually had to go back to the Parkson and exchange the shade as the initial shade I took (Mocha) oxidised really bad. Luckily Parkson has exchange service up to 7 days after purchase with the original receipt.
6) Essence Long Lasting Lipstick in 07 Natural Beauty
I am such a lipstick junkie. I have been loving Essence Long Lasting Lipstick in Natural Beauty a lot in February. It is a perfect MLBB shade. It is moisturising and have a satin finish which I am really into lately.
Natural beauty is mauvy-rose shade that is so gorgeous for most skin tone. By the way, this is definitely a dupe for MAC “Syrup” but a a fraction of the cost. RM12.90 versus RM70. definitely a steal!
7) 3 Concept Eyes (3CE) Shimmer Stick in Peach
I have mentioned this in my last favourite but this is such a great natural looking highlighter and I have been using it non-stop in February. I think this brightens up your complexion and gives your cheek the much needed sheen. This product perks up my mood making me somewhat forget my sorrow for that 2-3 minutes of application.
Such a beautiful highlighter for my medium- tan skin tone. Love! Love! Love!
8) My Beauty Diary America Soothing Pack
I have been wearing a lot of sheet masks in February, almost 3-4 times per week. My most favourite is My Beauty Diary America Soothing Pack which has a sheet mask and a serum in a pack. First you use the Calendula Soothing Sheet mask for about 20 to 30 minutes. After that, you pat the skin with Cotton Moisturising Emulsion.
My skin feels refreshed, rejuvenated and moisturised with this mask. The scent of Calendula is so soothing. I really have enjoyed pampering my skin with this mask a lot in February.
Stay tuned for my demo and full review in my Maskin’ Monday series.
Last but not least, my other favourite especially in February is my partner in life, Mr. Zurairi.
(You are always my favourite but for the month, you gained extra brownie points)
You are my rock, my strength, my heart and soul. I love you sweetheart <3.
Girls, once you have found the special someone who is just right for you, hold on tight and don’t let go. ;p
