One of the biggest trend right now is the ombre lipstick look. We will see this in lots of Korean makeup. Just dabbing liptint to the centre of the lips and sheer the colour out to the edges with you fingers. Laneige has come out with an quick and easy solution – a two tone lipsticks.
Here are my thoughts on Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar
I found this out of curiosity when I was at Sephora KLCC. There it was complete with a photo booth. Of course I had to take a picture or two. Especially when Sephora is having a Instagram contest when you just have to snap a photo with your cutest pose and Instagram it with the hashtag #TwoToneLipBar and tag @SephoraMY @LaneigeMY.
They’re picking one winner per week to own their full size Two Tone Lip Bar. If this is your forte, the contest ends at 24th June 2015. I think there’s another Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar photo booth in Starhill too.
Lucky me, I was picked as one of the weekly winner last week and have won myself a full size Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar in No.2 Red Blossom. Red Blossom is a red with nude mix. Thank you Sephora.
I have another one in No. 10 Burgundy Love which has a more burgundy red and soft pink highlight.
There are 10 different shades that you can choose from. Most of them are mixes of pinky tones.
The Laniege Two Tone Lip Bar is a unique packaging for a lipstick. It has a long rectangular shape with the product itself like a wafer bar (which explain the “lip bar” name). Each lip bar has two shades of lipstick that is designed in a triangle shape to best match the lip contour.
It has a sliding mechanism that pushes the lip bar up as you slide the handle down. The edgy rectangular, sliding shape is not new but pretty artistic.
I like that the sliding mechanism is pretty sturdy. I can slide down a little at a time and control how much product that I wanted to use before application.
As the lipstick’s shades have a diagonal cut, I can apply directly to the lips creating natural looking gradation instantly.
The lipstick formula has a moisturising texture and really comfortable and light on wear. The pigmentation is not too strong, which is the purpose of Korean style gradation lip. You can reapply the lipstick 2-3 times for more intensity of just one coat for a oh-I-just-had-a-popsicle kinda look.
Interestingly, Laniege Two Tone Lip Bar gives you the option of having attractive K-Pop star gradation lips or a full sexy lip look too.
Here are three ways you can wear Laniege Two Tone Lip Bar:
Style 1 – Korean Gradation lips
Glide the lip bar on your lower lip. Make sure the main colour applied to the inner lips (the longer colour of the lip bar is the main colour)
Turn the lip bar upside down and glide it on your upper lip to let the main colour to be applied at your inner lip.
Press your lips together a few times and you’re done.
Sometimes I like to dab the tip of my finger to blend the two tone lip colour together to create a more smooth gradation.
You can also use cotton tips to blur the lip line for a more pronounced gradation effect.
Style 2 – Full Sexy lips
Start by applying the lip bar upside down on your lower lip. This time the main colour is at the outer lip line.
The turn the lip bar upside down and glide it on your upper lip to let the main colour to be applied at your upper outer lip.
Press your lips together a few times to blends the two shades together and you will have a fuller sexy lips. The lighter shade of the lip bar will now highlight the centre of the lips making them look fuller.
Dot concealer around the out part of the lip, and blends outwards to create a more contoured lip shade.
To make the lips looks more va-va-voom, dab a little highlighter on the cupid bow and contour shade just below the centre of the lower lips. Now the lips looks full, pouty and sexy.
Style 3 – Funky two tone gradation lips
This is for ladies that like to experiment. I personally think this is a fun look for party or concert.
Tilt the lip bar so that the lighter shade is applied to the upper lip and the main colour (brighter shade) is applied to the lower lip. Make sure NOT to press the lips together so the colour wont mix.
Swipe the main colour only slightly over the inner part of the upper lips and dab with your finger.
Tadaa… a different twist on the gradation lips trend.
I tried wearing Laniege Two Tone Lip Bar to the office, it created a youthful look which I like and the lipstick lasted up to 6-8 hours without eating or drinking. If not, the pigmentation faded to nearly half of the initial intensity which I can just touch up easily. Sometimes, i just let the lipstick fades away till the end of day. I do feel the lipstick has a slight tint.
Oily food will definitely remove the lipstick instantly. However, like I have said before, due to its unique design, it is pretty easy to create the two tone gradation lipstick look with Laniege Two Tone Lip Bar. Just swipe, press your lips together and voila!
The one downside of this lipstick is that if your have chapped lips, The formula will accumulate in the lip creases and it will look pretty bad. Just make sure to exfoliate the lips and apply lip balm before applying Laniege Two Tone Lip Bar.
